COMP4040: Exploring Web Design - Wikis
Why use a wiki?
There are a number of good reasons for us to use a wiki in this course:
- it makes material accessible for subsequent reflection and analysis, allowing you to revisit and revise your contributions and ideas therebye enriching your learning experience
- it provides a space for you to reflect and publish your thoughts and understandings and to share ideas with others producing a collaborative product.
- through the use of hyperlinks you can begin to understand how different ideas link together.
- you have full control and ownership over your online content. You can build a virtual space to try out new concepts that do not have to fit within a hierarchical or topic-based discussion forum.
What shall we do will wiki?
The idea is that each of you should choose a topic and become "experts" in a topic.
Possible topics are:
- what are the basic web design principles and how do we put them into practice?
- what is "Extensible HyperText Markup Language" (XHTML), how and why should we use it?
- how can we style web pages using cascading style sheets (CSS) and what are the reasons for doing so?
- what are the advantages and disadvantages of separating design from content?
